Thanksgiving Message, November 2020

Dear Neighbors,

As we take a pause this week and come together on a day dedicated to celebrating gratitude we want to express our thanks to all of you, our Newton Neighbors. Since the founding of Newton Neighbors, 261 days ago, you have uplifted each other and built community in countless immeasurable ways. From supporting food pantry clients by delivering hundreds of bags of groceries week after week, to supporting individual neighbors in feeding, providing clothing and caring for their families. From sharing your Thanksgiving turkeys with neighbors to sharing resources with families who are working to rebuild their lives after devastation. The list is endless. Each day the NNHN moderators marvel at the sustained generosity of our community and the momentum of this “living organism of community members.”

In just these past 11 days in the spirit of this season you have come together to support others by answering calls for advice, meals, groceries, clothing, financial resources and turkeys...lots of turkeys! In 11 days you helped us raise over $4500 to purchase grocery gift cards for families in Brockton and Waltham, provide warm winter boots to 14 children in Waltham and support 15 families at The Second Step in Newton with a holiday gift card drive.

And so, on this day of thanksgiving we are thankful for all you have done, but mostly, we are thankful for you.

With gratitude,

Newton Neighbors

P.S. The NNHN moderators will be taking time to be with family during this long weekend. We will be checking the NNHN page twice per day to address any urgent requests that are posted. We appreciate your patience as we take time to restore with our families.
